About The Lycian Way

Biodiversity Photo Exhibition

The Lycian Way Biodiversity Photo Exhibition is a dedicated initiative to illuminate the rich ecological tapestry of Türkiye's southwestern coast. Spanning over 500 kilometers, the Lycian Way traverses diverse habitats—from coastal maquis and pine forests to alpine meadows—each teeming with unique flora and fauna. This exhibition aims to showcase the intricate beauty and significance of these ecosystems through the lens of photography.

Why A Permanent Exhibition

And An Expanding Archive

Thousands of people walk the Lycian Way every year, drawn by its nature, history, and the personal renewal it offers. For many, it’s more than a hike—it’s a planetary experience that deepens understanding of our place in the natural world.

A permanent photo exhibition situated along the Lycian Way turns this journey into something more— a shared space for observing, reflecting and celebrating nature.

By inviting hikers to contribute their own photographs, we create an expanding archive of the region’s biodiversity. It’s a way to make the invisible visible, turning moments of curiosity into lasting awareness.

Starting with over 200 species captured through Sumru Göncü’s 10 years of macro photography,

the exhibition lays the groundwork for a growing collective archive.

Our Mission

Our mission is to cultivate a deeper connection between people and nature through the power of visual storytelling. By establishing a permanent photo exhibition along the Lycian Way, we aim to create an evolving, community-driven archive that celebrates the region’s rich biodiversity.

Through this project, we seek to:

  • Make biodiversity visible

  • Encourage observation and curiosity

  • Support psychological and physical well-being through connection with nature

  • Foster environmental understanding and responsibility

  • Inspire collective care and long-term conservation

Culture, Conservation, and Collective Memory

The Lycian Way passes through villages and communities whose lives are closely tied to nature.

By showcasing the region’s biodiversity, the exhibition highlights the vital connection between nature and everyday life. It contributes to a future where ecological richness continues to support

both cultural identity and economic vitality—while nurturing inner and outer wellness for everyone, whether near or far. It stands as both a global responsibility and a shared hope for the future.
